Straps Workshop

With great excitement, Laché will be hosting a straps workshop by Stuart McKenzie. His background is booming in both world rankings and performances. Along with recent creations of his own, Stuart has been part of several Cirque Du Soleil shows including Saltimbanco, Kooza, and Kurios. With all his experience in competition, performance, and physical therapy certification, Stuart’s vision is to help people achieve their fitness, performance, and life goals through trust, belief, and confidence in themselves.
The straps workshop will be 2 days spanning 2 hours per day. Spots are limited to ensure a more optimal learning experience. Anticipated material to be covered is summarized below. Stuart has also offered to tailor the class to what the group wants to train. When there are 6 registrants, we will create a group chat to see if there are overlapping skills or routines desired by attendees to request.

Day 1
Aerial Straps & Aerial Fit Bodies
This workshop will focus on corrective technique exercises for two arm technique, one arm static technique, switches: low switch & up switch, and one arm spinning technique.
We will introduce our corrective hanging position – ‘fly hang position’ – the starting position for each exercise to benefit corrective technique and injury prevention.
Day 2
We will work through progressive exercises for two arm sequences, roll ups, muscle ups, side to sides, straps specific sequences, and there will be space left open to our groups personal straps goals to be achieved.
Switches will involve a progressive exercise: one arm shoulder stability and scapular control, leg lifts, meat hooks, straddle meat hooks, flags flying up to low and up switches.
BIO
Stuart was born in London and began gymnastics at the age of 12. He represented Great Matt in Sports Acrobatics for 10 years where his Men’s four achieved a ranking of No. 1 ‘n the world. Once retired from competition he joined the world renowned Cirque Du Soleil in 2008 in Montreal with the show Saltinbanco and then toured with the show Kooza for over 5 years where he performed in the teeterboard act. Stuart then transferred shows to the new touring show KURIOS whom he performed the duo Aerial Straps Act. Stuart recently created a new duo Aerial Straps act for Mystere at Treasure Island in Las Vegas. Other notable performances involved special events for CDS including more recently the Opening Ceremony for the Pan Am Games and One Night for One Drop. Stuart is currently creating a new and innovative aerial act for his own company with his partner Angela Kim.
Stuart graduated from Nocthumbria University with a BSc (Hons) Sport Management and is furthermore a certified PT, strength and conditioning, acrobatic and aerial coach: he was artist coach for strength and conditioning on the show Kooza. Stuart has been coaching, judging, touring, and creating workshops since he was a gymnast progressing to an artist. From all the years of experience he aspires to give back through mentoring within retreats and festivals to realty bold those spiritual and life fitness goals for up and coating artists.
